Monthly Archives: July 2015

I finally raced!  It went ok.  It was such a small part of my day, like I raced, I ran to my car and drove home and did a million other things.  7 miles in 50:50.  About 7:15/mile.  I really wasn’t sure what to expect considering my lack of speedwork due to my hamstring.  Luckily my hamstring felt good.  No issues there.  I felt good and got up the hill in a decent time.  8:10 minus 30 seconds to cross the line and then stuck in the slow moving herd for another minute or so.  I planned on running comfortably and then getting faster after the turnaround.  Didn’t happen.  I got hungry.  Like seriously my stomach was growling.  I ate breakfast, but not a big one because I didn’t want to have a heavy belly.  Rookie mistake for a veteran runner.  So then I felt that kind of hunger weakness but pushed on anyway.  I’m trying to remember my mile splits.  I think I was right at 15 for 2 miles.  3 miles was?   At the turn around I was at 25 minutes. After that, it gets fuzzy. I know the 6 mile mark was 44:30ish. Crossed the line at 51:20.  My PR is exactly 3 minutes faster at 47:50.  I did notice that everyone’s times were a bit slower this year. Probably due to the humidity that was pretty thick. At least the sun was hiding behind clouds. I was still in the top 100.  72 I think.

So I finished out that week at 41 miles.  This week I took off Sunday.  Red did make me run with her to the park and back.  I was impressed because it was the park that is about 7 blocks away.  Then this morning I ran 10.  I was still sore so it wasn’t too pleasant.  Tomorrow I will run 8.  Wednesday is 2.  Thursday is 8 again and Friday is 18.  Yikes.  I am still running by feel, I just estimate distance based on my time.  Like today I ran outside for 47 minutes and guesstimated that was 5.5 miles.  It ended up being 5.8 when I mapped it out.

I keep cruising

Well my long run is up to 16.  Completed on Saturday.  Ran 2 on treadmill then 4 outside.  2 on treadmill then 3 outside.  2 on treadmill and 3 outside.  At the very end, I actually did turn on my runkeeper and my pace was 8:36/mile.  My treadmill pace was around 8:12.  My total mileage for the week was 45.  Week before was 40.  This week will be 40 again because the 7 mile race is Saturday, so no long run.  I did 4 Sunday, 10 Monday, 2 Tuesday, and 8 today.  Monday I used Runkeeper to check my pace again and it was sub-8, so yay.  I am loosely following Pfitz 55/12 but I am sort of combining it with Higdon’s intermediate 2.  I just don’t know if I will have time to do some of the Pfitz’s longer midweek runs.

My goal for the race??  No idea.  it will be my first postpartum race which is kind of ridiculous since I am 10 months out.  Couldn’t do the 4 miler, had to do the water stop after my volunteers all quit on me.  Hopefully I will run it faster than last year when I was 7 months pregnant.  I think I did it in 53 ish minutes?

In other life news…

E is standing on her own now.  And crawling every where.  She’s pretty proud of that.  I will be relieved to not have to schlep her everywhere since girl is heavy, but then again, they get mad when you try to reel them in.  Or strap them in a cart at the store.  Especially once she sees Red having free reign.  Tantrums at Target will return for round 2.  She still has no teeth.  Her 9 month appt was last week and she was right around the middle for weight % and like 4th percentile for height.  Head was in the 70s, so smaller than Red’s.

I hope to take Red to see the minion movie tomorrow.  She is saying she wants a minion bday party but then she also wants a Shopkins party.  I am trying to steer her away from minion crap but we will see.

They are getting baptized on the 2nd.  I hope all goes well.  We went to church for the first time on Saturday.  I purposely came late so I could at least be there for Eucharist.  E was a little wiggly, but we made it through.  Red was good but I think it was the novelty of going to church for the first time that kept her tame.  Luckily Sunday School will start soon.

just 8 more weeks until Disney World!  I can’t wait.

babe 2

E is crawling, i have no idea when Red started to crawl, so I thought maybe I should actually sort of keep track of things this time around.  She never really rolled over.  Now she just crunches her way up into sitting position.  She must have amazing abs under that adorable baby far.  She started sitting up around 4 1/2 months.  She was actually cruising before she was crawling, so I have a feeling that walking will come sooner than 1 yr.  Right now i am just worried worried worried about E swallowing a shopkin or chunk of dog hair or something from the floor.  Or trying to stand up on the TV stand and having it fall over, etc.  So many worries.  Her 9 month checkup isn’t until next week, so I am not sure how much she weighs.  I do know that I cannot carry around her darn car seat with her in it anymore.  I haven’t been able to for quite a while actually.  I don’t have the greatest upper body strength but I definitely have been getting muscles from carrying her around a lot.  She doesn’t like to sit, so she is either being carried or climbing on me or furniture.  She is still just eating baby food, purees and yogurt.  She doesn’t eat very much and pretty much only wants yogurt or custard.  I have given her puffs, those baby cheetoh things, and teething biscuits but she just plays with them.  I don’t like this whole teaching them to eat thing.  It’s frustrating.

Bed time is usually ok because she doesn’t nap much during the day.  Rock her and restrain her from sitting up and she will usually be out in 5-10 minutes.  Last night was a different story.  Red’s bed time routine is THE WORST.  We f’ed it up big time with her.  I need to give her a set bedtime and have her in bed every night by that time.  lately she has been up til 10 pm.  Doesn’t help that the babysitter makes her nap.  I tried last night to have her in bed by 9:30.  We made it by 9:36 but I don’t think she fell asleep until almost 10.  Plus she requires one of us to be in the room with her until she falls asleep.   So that is usually me and then I fall asleep and don’t get any time with RKY.

As for me, 9 months PP, I feel OK.  I still feel like the 1 yr mark is the finish line.  It’s not.  It gets harder.  But I will stop pumping and feel like I get my life back.  Get my hormones back to normal.  Hopefully crave less sweets.  Have less body aches and pains.  GET MORE SLEEP.  I have been at my pre baby weight for a long time but I finally lost the belly pooch around 6 months PP.  I hope to not to have to nurse for as long with the next one, but getting my abs back might be enough additional motivation to keep me going for close to a yr.  That and all the awesome benefits the baby gets, of course.

I’m getting ahead of myself.  Baby #3 is still just a twinkle in my eye for the future.  Until then, I will keep on powering through my days and fighting my way out of my funks.
