I’m not jealous! I’M WEIRD!


Today is a much needed rest day for my legs.  I slept in until 6:20 when Red woke up.  Whaaa?  She doesn’t go to bed until 9 and usually sleeps until 8.  Oh well.  It was still an extra hour of sleep.

The blizzard has begun, schools have been dismissed and I’m hoping we get to leave work early.  I’m already worried about getting in my long run on Friday because it’s supposed to snow again and temps will be low enough that none of this shiz is gonna melt.  I can treadmill it if need be but man, I hope not.  Running on snow can be fun, but after a few days it gets sloshy and/or icy when it refreezes.  After my wrist spraining tumble earlier this month, I’m not taking any chances.

My legs feel tired.  It’s a good tired, not a walk like an ailing penguin tired.  No soreness, but when I sit down the legs sigh ahhhh.

I ran 19 two weeks ago and 20 one week ago, so this week I got to cut back.  I ran 11.5 yesterday and 10 today.  Of course these are all treadmill miles thanks to “Winter storm Q.”  Whatever that means.  Round two comes tomorrow night.

I didn’t think I’d make it through last week because I started to feel sickly again, but I somehow vanquished it with OTC meds and sheer will power.  Just one more 20 miler on Friday and then I can taper.

I am manning a booth at a junior high career fair tomorrow and I fear that I may be the loser group of the bunch.  Come join my dying profession!  It’s all nerds and old ladies, you’ll love it! I only know one librarian as crazy as this bitch

I think the groundhog is a flippin liar.  Spring has never felt further away. I’ll send the corgis to Puxatawnee to take care of that lil bastard.

Yesterday I ran 8 fast miles on the treadmill in my new Altras.  I actually did 6 x 800 at 6:40 pace and recovered at 7:30s.  I don’t usually get that technical with my runs and I usually will attempt to do Yassos but give up about half way through.  I think you’re supposed to do 10 Yasso 800s during peak training but that doesn’t appeal to me.    Apparently my new shoes make me slap my feet against the belt loudly because both Red and RKY were awoken by the house shaking.  That and my treadmill gets real whiney when I crank it up past 8.5 mph.  So do I, so who can blame it?

I really liked running in my new shoes but I did get blisters on the bottom of my feet and my calves are sore.  I thought my Nike Frees had prepared me for “barefoot running.”  I will have to slowly break the shoes and my body into it.   My legs were tired and sore, so I wore my Brooks for today’s run.  I have been taking too many breaks on the mill lately but I get bored.  I did 3 miles then did some arm curls, did 2.5 and then did some shoulder presses, and then finished with two miles and some overhead weight move thingy.   I think the weather’s only going to get worse as the week goes on, so I’d better come up with some more treadmill distractions.

I was watching the New Normal while I ran and had to turn it off about  half way through.  Their dog died.  I will NOT see any movie or read any book in which a dog dies.  You couldn’t pay me enough money to watch Marley and Me.  I’ve only had two dogs put down in my life and those were the worst days ever.  I know I’ll have similar days in the future, but I try really hard not to think about them.   Unfortunately my imagination is quite morbid and pessimistic in the strangest ways possible.

Shmowzow.  It was 55 degrees on my lunch break.  Now it’s in the 20s and snowing like a beast.  Of course today was my rest day, so I missed running in the 40s this morning.  Rest of the week looks to be worse.

So I did my twenty miler yesterday and I didn’t feel like complete ass when I finished.  I even added an extra .5.  The run didn’t start out so well.  I went outside to run and the temp was around 10, probably around 0 with wind chill.  I wore capris because my shins never get cold but this time…they got cold.  My face was pissed at me for not wearing a full on face mask.  I ran 6 outside and then came in on hopped on the treadmill.  I warmed up and felt good running on it and catching up with The Office.  (what is going on with Jim and Pam? 😦 )  Then I decided to head back out because the sun was out, so it would be warmer.  WRONG.  It was no warmer.  The cold shocked my comfy muscles but I forced myself into a 4 mile loop before heading back in and finishing the last 5 miles on the mill.  My knee didn’t hurt at all.  Didn’t even feel stiff.  Maybe there’s something to this foam rolling thing. 

Yesterday was also our 9 year anniversary.  My mom had already had her share of babysitting while I went to trivia on Saturday, so we hung out with the kid all day.  Went to Red Robin so she could scarf down a burger (her favorite food).  Got some groceries and clothes at Target and then just hung out all day.  Red did not nap.  I really needed her to after that 20 miles, but she didn’t.  She fell asleep around 8:30 which is 30 minutes earlier than normal, so we got to watch two reruns of Castle instead of just one before I passed out on the couch. 

Today I got two running goodies from UPS.  Hanson’s Marathon Method and my new Altras!  I was so excited, I put them on during my lunch break and wore them back to work.  Still wearing them.  Can’t wait to run in them tomorrow.

Well it’s V-day, the least exciting holiday of the year.  St. Patty’s is a close 2nd, but at least green is my favorite color.

My past week of running has been decent.  I still have wonky knee.  That is the technical term I believe.  I have come to accept that I will live with wonky knee the rest of my life.  I did, however, buy a massage roller thingy so I can roll my IT band.  Tater thinks it is a giant chew toy so he carries it around if I leave it on the floor.  Yes I leave a lot of things on the floor because our entire house is one giant play room.

I ran 19 miles on Saturday.  I considered making it 20, but I really wanted to force myself to do 20 this weekend so I held off.  Not really looking forward to that because the weather is supposed to take a turn for the freezing cold again.  My most exciting run was on Sunday when I fell super hard, scraped my knee, sprained my wrist, and did NOT break my phone this time.  My wrist is seriously sprained though.  Got it xrayed, splinted up, and Naproxened.  The Naproxen is really helping my knee too so BONUS.

This morning I planned on doing a short fast run.  I did 5k in 21 minutes.  Not exactly as fast as I wanted to.  The first mile took me a while to get warmed up but the last two were around 6:30s, so good enough.  My cooldown was me dancing to 2 songs on my iPod

My tax returns were deposited in my account so I really need to get going on those plane tickets to NYC.  I also have two hotels booked, so I need to cancel one.  Instead of doing important things like that, I took Red to Toys R Us and bought her a bunch of new toys.  She is mostly into the Magnadoodle but I keep stealing it and doodling funny sketches and dirty words to show to RKY.

I was also supposed to go to book club last night but I skipped because my social anxiety was making my stomach do flips.  I’m on Librium for that but apparently it’s not working..  I will have to accept my “hermit with a wonky knee” status for life
